Dry Skin Balm
Frequently asked questions…
-
“Can I use Gem's Dry Skin Balm on eczema?”
Yes! Many people looking for an effective eczema treatment use our balm as an eczema cream. In fact, the whole reason Gem’s Dry Skin Balm started was when Gem made the balm for her mother (pictured above) and the eczema on her hands, 15 years ago!

“Can I use Gem's Dry Skin Balm whilst I'm pregnant?”
Gem’s Dry Skin Balm contains very small quantities of the following essential oils -neroli, carrot, rose, galbanum & geranium, these oils have been carefully selected to have a healing effect on dry skin.
Most essential oils are perfectly safe to use during pregnancy and indeed can have many beneficial effects. However, it is always wise to carry out your own research before deciding if these oils are right for you. I would not recommend the use of essential oils during the first three months of pregnancy.

“Can I use Gem's Dry Skin Balm on psoriasis?”
The general feedback about my balm for psoriasis has been that it helps contain areas, stops flaking and due to the beeswax base, hydrates the skin for much longer that other creams they have tried. One testimonial reads:
“I periodically get a horrid form of psoriasis which looks like cigarette burns all over my body and is itchy and flakey. It takes months to go and I have previously been prescribed steroids and various emollients as well as being ‘cooked’ for up to 25mins 3 times a week for 2 months in an NHS tanning machine - great for the tan but takes ages to improve the skin. I started using Gem’s balm properly on it 2 weeks ago and already it has faded so much, it’s barely noticeable. It seems to have stopped any more spots appearing and there is no itch at all! Nothing has ever worked like this.”

“Is Gem's Dry Skin Balm safe to use around the eye area?”
We have lots of people using our balm on sore patches around the eyes and eczema on the eye lids. However, as with all products, test a small area first and be wary as the eyes are a sensitive area and anything near the eyes can cause irritation.

“Can I use Gem's Dry Skin Balm on my baby?”
Yes! There is a baby version available, just select Gem’s Dry Skin Bam for Babies above. Have a read of some of our testimonials too.
-
“Can I use Gem's Dry Skin Balm as a face moisturiser?”
Our balm is an ointment and has a beeswax base, therefore it has a waxy, hard consistency that melts when applied on the warmth of the skin. This recipe is designed for dry skin.
If you were to use it as a general moisturiser for your face, we would not recommend it, as it’s quite heavy. However, if you were using it to target dry skin on your face, then we would definitely recommend it and would apply at night time.

“Does Gem's Dry Skin Balm work on allergy prone skin?”
We have people with all sorts of skin ailments using our balm, such as eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and allergy prone skin.
“I’ve been using Gem’s Balm for 10+ years now. I haven’t ever found anything as good as this. I’m very allergy prone which causes dry skin and irritation. This magic cream is the only thing that ever calms it down. I can’t live without it/ recommend it enough. I’m so relieved Gem is making it again.”

“Can I use Gem's Dry Skin Balm on rosacea?”
We have lots of people using our balm on rosacea, the general feedback is that is reduces inflammation, hydrates and calms the skin.
“ My rosacea’s hormonal and has given me quite large red patches on my face, cheeks and forehead, which became very angry and even scaly at times, as the skin dries out and flakes away. Your balm hasn’t been able to help with reducing the dilation of veins below the skin that cause redness, of course, but it’s helped enormously to hydrate the skin, make the dryness a thing of the past and restore suppleness to my facial skin, which has been fantastic; so few creams have been able to help. The hydration in turn has soothed the inflammation, so my face is very much calmer. So I’m very pleased to have stumbled across it and will recommend to anyone with a dry skin condition.”
