The benefits of using a dry skin balm

SKIN BALM BENEFITS

I love using a natural balm instead of water-based products because the main difference I find is, it acts as a more protective and moisturising layer to heal very dry skin. It's basically an excellent moisture barrier - so it shields your skin from dehydration, it stays on the skin for longer with its protective layer and if you have a bit of patience and allow it to soak in, each ingredient works hard to restore any rough, sore skin or mature skin back to its original elasticity and feel soft again.

Also it’s important to note that creams are water based and therefore contain preservatives and emulsifiers thus limiting the ability to have 100% natural ingredients.

LONG TERM DAILY USE OR INTENSE TREATMENT

There are different ways to use a dry skin balm, whether you want to target dry skin conditions or a specific dry spot, like an elbow or your heels, or perhaps you want to use as a regular hand treatment, like we do, whatever your skincare routine, a balm targeting dry skin, can go a long way, your pot will last a lot longer and stay on the skin for longer too. I love using it on a daily basis for helping cuticles and strengthening my nails when I'm moisturising my hands at the end of the day and a small amount goes a long way!

FACE BALM

You can certainly use a balm on the face, particularly if you are in the sensitive skin types category or have very dry skin. It is similar to a face oil, in that it stays on the skin for a long time and leaves a protective layer so it's really great for an overnight treatment and alleviates irritated skin.  You can either use a balm for an intense monthly treatment or for more regular use.

BEST WAY TO USE A BALM

Balms are a thicker consistency to creams and therefore go a lot further! A little pot can last a long time if you are just using it on say, dry hands as a little bit goes a long way! Balms act as a brilliant skin barrier when facing cold weather, seasonal changes and sudden temperature changes. We find using the back of your nail to push the balm out of the pot in a small quantity the easiest way to apply.  Also as soon as you gently rub into the skin, it melts under the warmth of your skin.

As mentioned on our ingredients page, each ingredient in our own dry skin balm has been carefully selected to combat dry, sore, sensitive skin and it’s also suitable for eczema.  It also helps alleviate itchy skin.
